Must admit that going for a higher ISO at the expense of fast glass never even crossed my mind. I always try to buy the best lens I can, it'll outlast the camera body.

Hi Dean

Over the last few years the technology around ISO has improved greatly. Camera's produce less noise at higher ISO's, metering has improved and post processing software has improved noise reduction. The result is that ISO can be pushed to very high levels before the image becomes unusable.
But as Steve Perry points out that as ISO increases dynamic range is lost.
