I visited the SAAF museum at Ysterplaat today and saw an interesting badge on the flightsuit of the Pelican16 aircraft commander on display. It is a yellow smiley face worn on the left arm avove the SA flag. Is this an official badge and what does it denote?

No, this is not an official badge. I just think the aircrew of that aircraft were granted some leeway with regard to badges on their flying suits.

It might have meant something to the pilot, otherwise it has no significance.
