I'm not entirely sure about where this should go, so please feel free to move it to a better spot if you want :)

I just thought I'd post the start of my small collection of military - and aviation - related patches, caps, stickers etc. I hope to add a SAAF flightsuit as well as some SAAF patches to it soon. The ultimate would be do get some bone domes

The patches:

Stickers. I do have more lurking around, I think.

Caps, badges, stickers and mugs. I have yet to see another Alo mug one... does anyone else have one?

Thanks :smt023
Only of the Good Hope IV and 'dodgey/cartoonish' F-16 patches.

I also have one A3 Rooivalk poster, as well as an A1 Rooivalk poster, both signed by one of the Rooivalk pilots... Unfortunately I don't know what his name is, and I can't make it out in his signature. But hopefully they'll have more of these posters at the Ysterplaat airshow this year [-o<

Should I start a new Sub-Forum for "Collections"?

Although I don't actively collect stickers and pins, I do have a rather large collection.

However, I do actively collect airline pax Safety Cards ... I have over 280 different ones!

Methinks that's a good idea, Dean.

I don't specifically go out and search for these things; if I see something I like and the price is alright, I'll buy it. So, I wouldn't call myself an 'active collector'. :)

But I'm keen to see other collections. The only stuff I've seen so far is from Portamus.

I like Dean's idea too.

I have photos of mine and Kremlin's patch collection on my facebook page. I'll have to make him his favorite meal then talk him into redoing the photos and posting them. There's also a hat collection that needs photographing.

Interesting stuff you have there Brent, especially the Mir badge. Do you mind if I ask how you managed to come by these?

I inherited them from my grandfather & I seem to recall something about them originally being confiscated during a harbour customs search ...

What ship & when I have no idea.

I don't think that is Mir though, I got these badges in the late eighties, but my grandfather had had them for ages ... so they must date from somewhere in the 1970's to 80's .. & one of them has a 1977 on it. I'm assuming this is to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Russian Revolution.

Cheers

Yesterday a friend of mine gave me one of her old SAAF flight suits. Complete with a few patches. Needless to say, I'm stoked! Will post photos asap.

The number of hours flown determines the type of wings. Pilots generally start with bronze wings, progressing to silver wings and then gold. I think you need 3 000 hours to qualify for gold wings.
