Post subject:  Safety Cards
Being dedicated aviation enthusiasts, all of us collect things relating to aviation. Some of us collect aircraft, others collect hours flying aircraft, while the more PPL challenged of us have to contend with collecting things like stamps depicting aircraft (aerophilately) and other bits and pieces of aircraft.

In addition to the above, I also collect flight safety cards. You know, those things placed in the back of seats of passenger aircraft, indicating the emergency exits. This can be recognised by the words 'Do not remove from aircraft' printed on them.

I do not endorse the removal of these cards (heaven forbid), but most cabin crew do not mind if you ask. On the odd occasion, a card may even slip unnoticed into a magazine, only to be discovered at home.

Dean if you collect Airline pilot wings Mike Lukich is selling quite a few on Ebay at the moment. Contact him as well as he has alarge stock of South African "goodies"

He sells under the name South*Africa, if you have a copy of Colin Owen's book The Military Badges of Southern Africa you will see Mike's advert at the rear.

He is based in the UK and he is very good with his postal rates charged.

One safety card you are unlikely to get is from Ryanair. They are printed on the back of the seats. I suspect that this innovation will probably be widely followed in future. Michael O'Leary doesn't miss a trick. I recently heard that he has his own private taxi company, consisting of , his own private vehicle. He had had enough of dublin traffic and paid the 12000 euro for a taxi licence so that he can drive in the buslanes to get to work.

How do you store them Dean ? Displayed on the walls or kept in a cabinet ?

In a pile in my study cupboard!

They are sorted, however, alphabetically by airline/military/manufacturer, a second pile is kept for duplicates.

I also have a spreadsheet describing all the different cards and duplicates.

Now have exactly 300 unique safety cards from 118 airlines, manufacturers and airforces. :D

Dean, I’ve got one at home somewhere that came out of a SAPS Air wing helicopters. I’ll be happy to pass it on to a good home. :D Now the only thing is to go and search for it… #-o

My collection is now 286 unique airline pax safety cards from 109 airlines in 50 countries, 12 manufacturers cards (10 aircraft types) and 6 from the military (2 airforces), totalling 304. :D
