Cheers Wingman, lets hope it turns out good 8-[ :-k

There are seemingly only three examples left in the world, none of them flying, so detailed reference pics are few :(

Brent...Not sure what reference or historical pics you have - but here is one pic from the trommel of 963 of 41 Air School - in flight over East London during the Second World War.

And the last of the Fairey Battles delivered to SAAF...Reg K9402

Cheers Doug & the mighty trommel :-)

K9402 was actually the first Battle delivered, and went on to become no.901.

I have also received great photos of SAAF Battles from the gurus, Piet van Schalkwyk & Stefaan Bouwer :-)

What is a struggle though is detailed, rivet by rivet reference photos for me to draw from. This due to there not being many airframes existing worldwide :-(

My guess was Ju 86, there are quite a few aircraft that can fit into that category.

Yes :D
I still want to do a JU-86 & Hartebees. Then a Vickers Valentia if I'm brave enough  8-[

Fairey Battle K9402 was the first Fairey Battle to be delivered to the SAAF. With war looming on the horizon, and with the SAAF needing to expand and operate more modern aircraft, she was initially acquired for evaluation purposes. After the outbreak of war however, K9402 was given the serial N° 901 and used operationally by N° 11 squadron. The Battle with it's Merlin II engine, had been delivered to Cape Town by ship, early in April 1939. After being assembled, she had her first test flight in the skies over Cape Town on the 11th April 1939, before afterwards being flown by Maj. J.E.O. Marais, to Waterkloof Air Station. K9402 was delivered to South Africa in the standard RAF camouflage of the day, being dark earth, dark green upper surfaces, with black undersides. The K9402 serial was carried in white on the bottom of both wings, with the serial also appearing in black on the rear fuselage and high on the tail.
