Hi guys and girls!

It's been too long since I posted anything here (again) but I've recently finished two pieces of line art that I'm going to be working on:

Cool stuff there Damian! =D>
Me likes

Just a comment: In your line art the F1AZ sports an "interception spotlight" (don't know the correct terminology)on the port side, just behind port air intake. From what I can see on pics F1AZ did not have this feature(makes sense- not having AI radar probably not used for bad weather/night interception missions- correct me if I'm wrong!!)

I see Kremlin's fine profiles also show this feature on F1AZ (@Kremlin: your thoughts on this?)
(When looking at pics of F1CZ I also for the first time noted that the spotlight only on port side- live and learn!)

Keep the fine art coming

Great eagle eyes Plane crazy :smt023 :D

I used my CZ drawings as a basis for the AZ & didn't pick up that the light shouldn't be there, ...

Thanks

Hi Damian,

I must commend you on the quality of your work. Just be careful of the blanks you trace them from. Especially the shape of the intakes and the AZ nose. I have the same blank for the F-1CZ and AZ as you have used, but there are many mistakes on the blank. This can be easily rectified by doing a bit of research from photos. Regarding the interception/search light, it was only fitted to the port intake trunk of the F-1CZ.

Regarding the KA-50 SH, I also have the same blank, and you did a splendid job. Just remove the "pumpkin" on top of the main rotor, as I'm sure it was only fitted on the KA-52. Never seen a photo of it fitted on the SH? I'll confirm this with a very good Russian friend of mine.

Keep up the good work. :smt023

Cheers
John

Okay,

The "pumpkin"-like device is an "Arbalest" radar pod. Apparently trials were done in 2006 - 2007. The airframe it was tested on, was 018, and has been modified extensively during its life. Almost a testbed like Rooivalk serial no. 682. I've still been unable to find a picture of the SH with "Arbalest".

Cheers
John

Cool, I wonder if this is where its name is derived from:

That's interesting and would be rather funny if so. Because the Russians have been known to copy western designs, and co-incidentally the AH-64D Apache carries a similarly shaped and mounted Longbow radar.
