Just saw this

"Airlink and Safair seek regulatory approval to merge"
https://www.fin24.com/Companies/Industr ... e-20171127?

Is this a move to avoid joining the "junk yard" of local airlines that have gone broke in recent years?

Both airlines are successful and profitable, so they will make a tough competitor to the other established players.

Will Safair still be getting the ten new LM-100J Hercules that ASL have ordered? Their curent Hercs are almost as old as the SAAF's.

I'm not sure if it's just the commercial airline (flysafair) business Airlink is acquiring, or the entire Safair operations. I think it is just the flysafair side of things?

The deal is for all of Safair, not just FlySafair. ASL Aviation, Safair's current owner, will receive a minority share in Airlink Group as a result of the merger.

I'm not sure what this means for the LM-100J acquisition, as that was being handled by ASL and had already, from what I've heard, been reduced from a letter of intent for 10 to a firmer commitment for only 4. I have not yet been able to confirm that yet.

All in all I think this is probably a good thing, both Airlink and Safair are well-run and efficient operations and should be complementary.
