Can someone perhaps tell me why the driver pulses the engine before the run?

This is done for display purposes, it adds to the show. The same thing happens here in SA at Tarlton International Raceway where the Van Rensburg family run two Westinghouse J34 powered Jet Cars. Always thrilling to watch
