hahaha, It was flying so slow I was trying 1/60 & 1/80 but no luck. I am more interested in getting a disk shot of the Huey, it has a RPM of 1. Seriously though the most impressive thing about the Huey is the sound, you can actually feel that thumping beat of the blades in your chest. you can also hear it on approach well before its visual.

I need to refocus on RIAT soon.

And that is why the US Army had a large portion of the 3,000 odd Huey losses attributable to being shot down in Vietnam....many were recovered though.

The RNZAF operated the UH-1 before its retirement in 2015, its characteristic "wah-wah-wah" rotor sound is probably as distinctive and evocative to NZ personnel who served in Vietnam, as the whine of the Alouette III's accessory gearbox is to those who served in Angola or Rhodesia.

Last week Friday my unit hosted a former member of Victor company - RNZIR, the first company to go into Vietnam. They were based mostly at Nui Dat with the 1st Australian Task Force. He gave us a well spoken and informative account of his 1 year tour of duty. They certainly saw their fair share of action.
