Ok guys, so now I'm committed.

I'm in jhb for the weekend but wifey forgot to pack the mik-en-druk, but I'll take some snaps with the phone and see what it looks like once downloaded. Will only be sunday flights though as saturday is big rugby day at brother-in-laws place.

Stay tuned!

Sorry guys, no pics yet. Firstly they were using the runway closest to Benoni and secondly the phone takes kak pictures, and lastly it was too bloody cold to stand outside taking pics of airplanes.

PS: does anybody have information about the Impala Mk1 mounted at the Impala Primary School in Kempton park? I'll take a picture next weekend. I've checked on the Museum list but could not pick up this mount. I picked up the Mirage mounted at Sir Pierre v Ryneveld Secondary, but nothing at Impala Primary.

Sorry forgot to take down the number when I went past there yesterday. :smt015

That would be Impala Mk I 494 which is mounted at Laerskool Impala, Kemptonpark.

I think this ORTIA thread could be even better than the FACT thread because the A380 makes flights to there.
By the way what is O.R Tambo's icao code?

FAJS

It was due to change from FAJS to FAOR on 26 July, as per AIP Supplement S057/12. However as per NOTAM A2161/12 Supplement S057/12 has been cancelled and the implementation of the airport code change has been delayed until 10 January 2013.

As the withdrawal of the Olifants River Bridge identifier (which used to be FAOR) has already happened, I'd guess that the plan is to still make the change to FAOR, but that common sense prevailed and much more time has been allocated.

Not that I think it makes any sense to change the ICAO code from FAJS to FAOR, as it's just expensive, confusing and unnecessary. It also goes against international norms on ICAO codes which specify that the codes are preferably not associated with airport names (and are at most linked to location names) and that they do not change even as airports are renamed. But I don't want to derail the thread on that tangent.

No problem, darren. Keep on derailing. I'm back in jhb for a fire fighting competition this weekend and will make sure I take the mik en druk. I saw two A380 on apron driving home on sunday, can't remember airlines though. Will go and snap a few birds in the nests from the viewing deck on sunday.

This is the only pic I got on Sunday.

Too small, and now suddenly my network don't allow me to upload pictures to Photobucket so I'm trying other photo sharing sites such as Imageshack and Picasaweb
