Hi all,

I was under the impression that all SAA 747's were retired. Well that was what I have read. The other day a friend of mine came back from Cape town in a SAA 747. Can anybody put some light on the subject?

Three B744s (ZS-SAZ, ZS-SBS, and ZS-SBK) are still in service with SAA. Two painted white and one in full SAA colours.

I think they were wet leased out to Air Namibia and Angola at one stage, but are now being used on the Jhb - Luanda, Jhb - Lagos - Accra and Jhb - Cape Town routes due to passenger load demands.

Nice........747 between JHB and Cape Town. Never been in a 747. Might get the chance now.

News from some recent passengers on the 747s from Accra via Lagos is that they are very much past their sell-by data especially when compared to the rest of the SAA fleet. They spent so much time on the tarmac in Lagos being technically seen too, they wished they flown via Nairobi or Europe... :(
