With no imminent aerial threat from any quarter at the moment, Zimbabwe still has the luxury of waiting until she checks out the capabilities of the aircraft to be delivered to Mumbwa, Grootfortein, Thebephatswa and Nampula, together with what is already available at Makhado Air Force bases. Then, perhaps, we will go, obviously east, to shop for a multi-role combat aircraft that will be able to defend our airspace against an enemy of any size and shape, in any weather, day or night. May our wings continue to be our fortress. – Cassius Sande, Harare

Zim to splurge US$500 million on MiG-29 Russian fighter jets

COLOGNE - In a bid to reinforce it's fleet and air combat capabilities, while severing ties with European Union (EU) arm supplies, the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ), has reportedly struck a deal to take delivery of Mikoyan MiG-29 Russian fighter jets in 2017, at an estimated cost of US$500 million, The Telescope News reported

Apparently in 2019 at Defence Forces Day in Zimbabwe, when they did the 21 aircraft AFZ flypast, they managed to get an F-7 and a Hawk airborne after being grounded for roughly a decade. Everything was apparently done in house. Quite impressive I would say.

Does anyone have any info as to whether the F-7 and Hawk is still flying?

The guy standing middle front is Michael Enslin. Long since retired from AFZ. Legendary for his exploits during the Second Congo war. He did a stint in the RAAF afterwards and last I heard he was flying F-5's for a Middle Eastern Country. So that photo is definitely old, pre- or during Second Congo War.

Thanks James. Thought I recognised him, but did not know of his subsequent movements.
